If you missed the post on my daughter's Vintage Tea Party, you can see it here. For her birthday, I knew I wanted to get her a play kitchen. The ones in Pottery Barn Kids are over priced and I wanted it to be unique. Of course, being married to a carpenter has it's advantages when it comes to things like this. :) I knew that he'd go all out and make it the best play kitchen ever! Let's just get right to the pictures! I know that's what you want to see anyway....

Sorry for the cut off photo. My wide lens broke and this thing is bigger than it looks! I was standing in the opposite corner of the room. Hopefully I will get a better full shot soon.
The oven:
Glass knobs from Hobby Lobby. They were $2.99 each! They look almost just like Anthro's $10.00 glass knobs!
My little assistant. Just to show size of the kitchen. She will be able to play with this for a long time. It is quite a bit bigger than she is.
The apron sink:
My mom made the sink skirt to match the little chair cushions in her room.
Yes, JT even put a real sink stopper in it. You have to know him. If he's gonna do something, he's gonna do it right! :) God love him. He and I are both such detail pay attentioners that I won't post about all our arguments of how things should be on this play kitchen! That would be silly. I mean it's a PLAY kitchen.
We got the faucet at Lowe's. It was the least expensive one they had. It was a small bar sink faucet. I actually found on on ebay just like this one for $6.00, but we needed it in time for her party so just bought a new one.
A lot of people have asked where he ordered the little sink and assumed it was plastic. Nope. It's wood and he made it. He made a box and used his router to round off the corners. Then, we used a very high gloss paint to give it more shine than the rest of the kitchen. Plus, the high gloss paint is easy for wiping down and cleaning up too!
A shot without the sink skirt to show the shelf underneath the sink.
We hung the sink skirt with a wooden dowel.
The ice box:
We were going to buy just regular handles for the fridge doors, but I spotted these on my way out of Lowe's and they were on clearance! Don't they look just like mini fridge door handles!
It was JT's idea to paint the inside white.....like a real fridge. I have one word for you: overachiever.
He rounded the edged of the doors for a retro look and for safety. He also made the doors hollow so they were light weight.
The cabinet:
The tiny knobs on the cabinet are from Hobby Lobby, too. JT put bead board insets in the cabinet doors.
A little hand towel rack on the side of the cabinet, next to the sink.
Another shot of the hand towel I made with coordinating fabrics:
The end product! I could not be more pleased! I'm so proud of John Taylor for building this and I know it's something she'll love and treasure for a long time and maybe even pass it down to her daughter one day.
There are some kitchen accessories I am getting from Ikea. Will share those soon!
PS.....we were inspired by this play kitchen, but just added our own designs and touches to some of the kitchen parts and tried to make it more vintage. I did use the tutorial on that play kitchen for the sink skirt. Ana built one for her daughter, too. You can find it here.
As always, I'll be glad to answer any questions! Just email me.

Oh my goodness. This has got to be the cutest, funnest, sweetest thing I have seen! I love every bit of it...the tiny details and all! Would he be willing to sell the plans for it? Mike is wanting to make something for Anna Claire...
Also...did he build the table and chairs? Mike has been looking for plans for a table to make for her 2nd birthday and this is exactly what we are looking for. Would he be willing to share?
I just love this little kitchen! Your hubby is quite talented! Can I have one in my size?? Thanks for the birthday wishes! And you crack me up...no, my husband did not make the cake. He had it made!!;) I'd be quite impressed even he had even tried!!;)
This is absolutely amazing! Stunning! Love it so much. xoxox
I absolutely love this. If I have a little girl one day--- I'll order one!
I want this kitchen for myself! Amazing!
How did he make the doors hollow? That's so brilliant.
Anonymous,
He used (2) sheets of thin ply wood and braced them together with smaller cube-like arms in the middle. For the rounded edges of the door on each side, he actually bought a stair-way rail and cut it in half, using one half on the left side and one half on the right. I hope this makes sense and answers your questions. If not, you can email me at iblogmoore@gmail.com.
Thanks for stopping by!
LOVE!! The apron sink is adorable. We just made a play kitchen and had the hardest time finding something for the sink.
OMG!!!!! stunning! I am so inspired! what amazing ideas!!!!
I found you via Ana White. This is ADORABLE! We're planning on making one for my daughter for Christmas. Thank you for even more inspiration with the project!! p.s. Where'd you get that table and chair set? I LOVE IT!
Out of site! I am in love with the precious details of this kitchen. Sounds like your Mr. and mine would get along. "Leave no detail behind", that might as well be his motto. :-)
We ended up using that same faucet from Lowe's for the same reason. Haha! It's really perfect. We later made a matching retro fridge with the freezer on top and rounded edges. It looks similar to the Big Chill vintage inspired retro fridges. Love the cabinet idea, a girl can never have too much storage.
Your little sweetie is lucky to have you guys for a Mommy and Daddy. The way you poured your heart and soul into this project speaks volumes.
Thanks so much for sharing!

Gorgeous! I found some cabinet pulls similiar to the ones you have there... I'm not sure if the projection is too much, though. It pops out 1 3/8 inch. Could you tell me how far yours come out and if you think they will be ok? Thanks! Sarah

This kitchen is cute beyone words! I found your blog through Ana White's page and absolutely fell in love with the attention to detail that you guys put into this kitchen set for your little girl! My husband was so excited when I showed him Ana's website and asked him if he thought he could make a kitchen for our daughter and he went out and bought all the lumber and tools already. I showed him your blog and asked him about doing the sink on her kitchen the same way and he was just curious how it was done. We'd really appreciate if your husband would share the details of how he accomplished that sink! Again, congrats on a job spectacularly done! :)
Good Evening,
Just as all of the other fans.....I LOVE this kitchen. I would love to build this kitchen as a Christmas gift to my kids and would really appreciate the dimensions, paint colors, etc. regarding this beautiful piece of of work! You and your hubby are very talented.

do you have the plans for this? measurements and cuts? I'm making my girls a kitchen set for Christmas and I love the changes you've done to the inspiration set. dani.millecam@gmail.com
Love it! Just "upcycled" my childhood play kitchen from the 80's! One question for you, how did you attach the dowel rod?
Hello! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering
which blog platform are you using for this website? I'm getting tired of Wordpress because I've had
issues with hackers and I'm looking at alternatives for another platform. I would be great if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.

Your play kitchen is fabulous. We are going to put an apron sink in the ana-white designed play kitchen that we are building right now. How did your husband brace the apron sink?
