If you missed the post on my daughter's Vintage Tea Party, you can see it here.  For her birthday, I knew I wanted to get her a play kitchen.  The ones in Pottery Barn Kids are over priced and I wanted it to be unique.  Of course, being married to a carpenter has it's advantages when it comes to things like this.  :)  I knew that he'd go all out and make it the best play kitchen ever!  Let's just get right to the pictures!  I know that's what you want to see anyway....

Sorry for the cut off photo.  My wide lens broke and this thing is bigger than it looks!  I was standing in the opposite corner of the room.  Hopefully I will get a better full shot soon.

The oven:

 Glass knobs from Hobby Lobby.  They were $2.99 each!  They look almost just like Anthro's $10.00 glass knobs!

 My little assistant.  Just to show size of the kitchen.  She will be able to play with this for a long time.  It is quite a bit bigger than she is.

The apron sink:

 My mom made the sink skirt to match the little chair cushions in her room.

 Yes, JT even put a real sink stopper in it.  You have to know him.  If he's gonna do something, he's gonna do it right!  :)  God love him.  He and I are both such detail pay attentioners that I won't post about all our arguments of how things should be on this play kitchen!  That would be silly.  I mean it's a PLAY kitchen.

We got the faucet at Lowe's.  It was the least expensive one they had.  It was a small bar sink faucet.  I actually found on on ebay just like this one for $6.00, but we needed it in time for her party so just bought a new one.

 A lot of people have asked where he ordered the little sink and assumed it was plastic.  Nope.  It's wood and he made it.  He made a box and used his router to round off the corners.  Then, we used a very high gloss paint to give it more shine than the rest of the kitchen.  Plus, the high gloss paint is easy for wiping down and cleaning up too!

 We hung the sink skirt with a wooden dowel.

The ice box:

 We were going to buy just regular handles for the fridge doors, but I spotted these on my way out of Lowe's and they were on clearance!  Don't they look just like mini fridge door handles!

 It was JT's idea to paint the inside white.....like a real fridge.  I have one word for you: overachiever.

 He rounded the edged of the doors for a retro look and for safety.  He also made the doors hollow so they were light weight.

The cabinet:

The tiny knobs on the cabinet are from Hobby Lobby, too.  JT put bead board insets in the cabinet doors. 

 A little hand towel rack on the side of the cabinet, next to the sink.

The end product!  I could not be more pleased!  I'm so proud of John Taylor for building this and I know it's something she'll love and treasure for a long time and maybe even pass it down to her daughter one day.

There are some kitchen accessories I am getting from Ikea.  Will share those soon!

PS.....we were inspired by this play kitchen, but just added our own designs and touches to some of the kitchen parts and tried to make it more vintage.  I did use the tutorial on that play kitchen for the sink skirt.  Ana built one for her daughter, too.  You can find it here.
